Gather EC

When I realized that some of the machines were gone from the National Zoo, I went to a few other locations. Here’s one of them:

Picked up these coins during my Ohio trip this weekend:

I started off on Saturday with 5 requests for each location: the National Zoological Park and ESPN Zone. When I got to the zoo, it was dark and rainy and I couldn’t find 3 of the 7 machines. The National Zoo has a gradual slope that makes waking back and forth really tiring, so I decided to come back again in search of the missing machines.
When I came back on Sunday, I still couldn’t find them. I asked just about every zoo personnel but none of them knew anything, one woman at the information booth even walked me to the location before she admitted herself that they were gone. This is really distressing… one of the many reasons not to offer to press coins for others.
Anyway, I had more luck at the ESPN Zone. Since I bought a one day pass, I stopped at Federal Triangle to press the coins at the Post Office Pavilion and the National Aquarium. When I got to the American History Museum, I saw that the road leading to the museum was torn up. A construction worker by the road told me that the museum’s been closed for nearly 2 years now. Wow… I never knew.

I’m not sure why but the site’s been receiving a lot of spam comments in the past few days. I’ve activated Askimet and hopefully that’ll take care of the problem.

I’m planning a trip to DC this Sunday. Mainly I’m going for the ESPN Zone coins, but I’ll also be dropping by the National Zoo to press a few sets for friends.

Ah, I feel horrible about updating this site so infrequently. I haven’t been actively pressing and trading coins due to a glitch with my last trade. Hopefully I’ll get that sorted out soon.
In the meanwhile, here are the coins that I got from visiting the Shenandoah National Park:

My hard drive failed last month and I had to reformat a new one. In the process I lost my beloved Photoshop. I had an authentic copy but I lost the CD, so the new quest was on for searching a similar freeware.
The two that I found were:

• Picasa - This is a freeware by Google. I tried it and it works great, except it’s mainly for photo editing.

• GIMP - Yes, a highly inappropriate name (especially if you’ve seen Pulp Fiction), but is closer to Photoshop and therefore better for EC image editing.
