Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is looking forward to a great new year.
As a Christmas gift to myself, I went out and bid on a few coins. In the end, everything I won are foriegn coins. There are a few from Budapest and a group from Israel. I’m looking foward to getting them in the mail and I’ll scan them in as soon as I do!
I used to purchase or trade for the Disney holiday nickels every year, but now I’m not sure who to turn to for these coins anymore
Andy and I spent half a day at Gettysburg today. This was our first visit, so I decided not to bring a list of machine locations with me.
We stopped at the visitor’s center and purchased a CD for the auto tour, which I strongly recommend for anyone visiting the national park.
There are two machines at the museum shop:
New EC’s from Gettysburg Battlefield Museum Gettysburg, PA
I’m starting to rescan old images to match the new 150% standards. I don’t think it makes too much of a difference though…
I’ve completed through Arizona.
No more procrastination! Today I scanned and categorized all my backlog EC’s. The whole thing took me 7 hours.

Trivia for everyone! Here is a humuhumunukunukuapua, state fish of Hawaii:

I’m starting to think that I should take 150% size of images instead of limiting them to 100 pixel width. I’ve started to do this from coin #3299. If it works well, I’ll back track and rescan the past imagines.
Also, I’m starting to look for online coin suppliers. I have 7 boxes double row boxes for my US coins and they are overflowing
Here’s a site (Brent-Krueger) that sells the boxes that I use. If you find a better price for these boxes during your searches, please let me know. Thanks!
I went to the National Zoo again today. Last time I went, 3 out of the 7 machines there were gone and I promised other collectors that I’d get them all. When I visited today, one of the machines (Orangutan) was moved near the Reptile House and another (Mei Xiang and cub) was modified to take dollar bills at the Ape House. A new three-die machine is now in the cafeteria. It takes dollar bills and provides its own pennies, which unfortunately are zincs…
Check out the new designs! Scroll down to the bottom of the National Zoo page, the last three are from the new machine:
New EC’s from the National Zoological Park Washington DC
Made a few changes to the site. Very minor, probably never noticed:
- I added the island names to the city list on the Hawaii page. Now everything is sorted by island first and city second.
- The website counter is now using “views” instead of “visitors”. Using visitors is not really accurate since each visitor clocks a few counts per visit.
- The categories on the right hand side now lists the number of posts.
- Exploris coin from Raleigh, NC is retired.
- There were a few typos on my trade list, so please ask me to verify the coins you would like when you ask for a trade. Thanks!
Happy Friday! It’s finally the weekend, hopefully I’ll have some time to unpack as well as scan coins.
More coins from O’ahu:
New EC’s from Honolulu Zoo Honolulu, HI

New EC from Cabela’s Hazelwood, MO (traded with Charlie and Faith Rose)

Just got back from Hawaii! I met a couple of EC collectors while pressing coins on O’ahu. Hopefully they’ll visit my site!
I didn’t expect so many machines on the island and underestimated the rolls of quarters and pennies needed. I must have spent around $50 for pressing pennies.
The coins will be scanned and uploaded in batches, here are a few to start with:
King’s Village is off of the main road down Waikiki Beach. Many of the machines in the area are within walking distance, including the Honolulu Zoo, the Waikiki Aquarium, machines at the King’s Village, and International Market.
New EC’s from Rock Island Cafe Honolulu, HI
